Hawkins is a family affair. All the songs started out as instrumental compositions by Dave Hawkins (A.K.A. Nephew), which he 4-tracked in his San Francisco apartment. From there, the songs made their way up North to the Spokane Spa, owned and operated by Don Hawkins (A.K.A. Uncle), where they received mud baths, additional guitar tracks and vocals. A few of the more unruly ones were shipped off to the Gail George Boarding and Finishing School in New York City, and they returned to the fold as model citizens. The song 'Spirit of Place' received poetic treatment from Bruce Hawkins (A.K.A. Father / Brother), based on a poem of the same name taken from his book 'The Ghost in the Buick'.
Every sound on the album was made by a human hand or voice in real time. No drum machines or computers were harmed in the making of this album. From the Hawkins family, to your family....we hope you enjoy it.
